Bangladesh Seeks New IMF Aid Package Amid Rising Energy Crisis
The Bangladeshi government has appealed to the IMF asking for a fresh funding package to help it cope with the economic impacts of the war waged by the U.S.-Israel against Iran. This war has caused a serious shortage of energy, and thus oil prices have reached $100 per barrel. As nearly all fuel needs in Bangladesh are imported, it had no other choice but to increase prices on gas and close factories. The Bangladeshi apparel sector, which is crucial for Bangladesh, suffers from high transportation costs resulting in higher prices for raw materials and delays of goods delivered to the retailers across the world. According to the previous announcement, Bangladesh needed a loan of $2 billion.
